@Lizzie27 I think in time three would do the job but will take a while to fill the space. I am more than happy to have as many as I can manage more for the future and in the front garden.I hadn't thought of Zig zag but will certainly give this a go first. I think I will know when it is right it's just a case of looking at all options.
@Plantminded That is a good point! The two from Knoll Gardens are 9cm so small I have three more in the garden which I brought with me I would say they would fit at least a two litre pot. They are in a nursery bed and looking good. I might pot the new ones on as I think I will wait a while before planting. Once they get going in the ground I'll move them and they will be off!
I agree they get big and wide but faced with a empty space I hope to fill it in the next 2/3 years , fillers for now as you suggest. You can never have enough of this plant with a large border to the side and front I will need it all in time.
Can you make New Years Resolutions on the 1st Feb? If so mine would be keep off the Knoll Gardens website it's just too good and so tempting.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
My thought would be to divide the three larger plants that you have and arrange the resulting six plants as two parallel lines of three to achieve a formal block. As the plants expand outwards they will eventually merge to fill the space without gaps. The other small plants that you have can be used as back ups for any failures or uneven growth, which is highly unlikely! Have a look at the arrangements for hedges at Knoll:
@Plantminded Thankyou again for your invaluable help. The first photo on Knoll shows the beauty of this stand alone grass. I think this must be the only part of this website I haven't been on so useful, As you say if I plant in a block this will encourage good dense even growth in time. We often think of planting in odd numbers but in this situation evens work better. I will experiment with setting them out a photo to follow once planted in a few week .Suze

You are very welcome @GardenerSuze. Through trial and error I have found that this regimented layout works best for a dense block, although I use odd numbers elsewhere!
So here it is the first 'tea bag' plant thought I had got away with it so far. As you can see it has managed to escaped, fine if you have a strongly growing plant but not sure every small plant can fight it's way out of a tea bag. From a large country wide Garden Centre I assume to cut costs?

Iv'e also contacted Crocus regarding one of the ferns mentioned earlier. They sent me the plant but not the roots! I contacted them and they sent another no roots on this one either. I don't think it is vine weevil but I could be wrong. It seems more likely that it has been potted on only recently.
Just to add one more problem from same GC as above. I purchased Helleborous Magic Yellow on2nd Oct 2023 it is infact a dirty plumb colour, so I will be taking that back. Too good to be true. I did notice they had some a few weeks ago white flowers labels firmly fixed to pot had a pink flower.

That is very odd about the fern! Do you think the roots were too young to establish in the pot? Was the Sarcococca from Crocus? The Hellebore's colour is disappointing. It all takes time to sort out. Hopefully you will receive a good response.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
