The ads are still there just that you can’t see then,  how often would we buy from these ads anyway.

This conversation has reminded me of this.

@lyn The comanies pay GW for the number of the ads viewed. They don't pay if site users block the ads - so GW lose out. Either GW charge to join, they delete the forum or they use ads to generate income. The money to run the forum has to come from somewhere...

Frankly, 99% of the ads I see ( usually accidentally) have the presumably unwanted outcome of me adding the product to the ever growing list of items I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole! The manufacturers should be relieved that I’m not seeing the ads, as I might continue to buy their products!

No sure the GW accountants would see it like that.

If that’s the case why do they give you the option to refuse the cookies.
I don’t get any ads and I don’t use an ad blocker.
They probably get enough money from the magazine ads to cover most of it.

We are on Firefox and yesterday the demand came up to undo the adblock. Couldn't ignore it as it wouldn't let me continue. So agreed, signed in and then blocked again. This is so wrong of GW to put pressure on people who do not want to be followed and have adverts on any page they are using.

@nutcutlet I just remembered something. I log in from Luxembourg and for a while there was an itch that would automatically redirect me to the GW Dutch website. I don't know if others from Europe have also experienced this. It was difficult to get back on the UK site but somehow managed it. I wish I remember how I did it or maybe the problem was solved at source by the mods. Anyway, I did get the ads for a while during the "Dutch" period. I never log off now for fear of going Dutch again 🤣I guess that if ads would appear I would put up with it.
