  • But not all disappeared, perhaps that point is forgotten.

Things were fine until recently, where most of the fruits appear to have vanished for no apparent reason.

  • Key word being most?

It’s one of those mysteries isn’t it.
The pears were on the tree,  they needed to be thinned out to 2 per spur,  then they disappeared.   Poltergeist probably.
This suggests all were taken, which I'm afraid I never specified.

Whew do you think they disappeared too.
    None of the above suggestions.

No Lyn, it was you who presumed they all disappeared, which I've already said never happened.

So all but 10 disappeared, where do you think they went?

I thought it had already been discussed, Lyn.
If I knew where they went, I wouldn't have bothered seeking advice on here.

It's different to them all disappearing though like you had presumed, wouldn't you agree - ?
  • If however you're someone who just likes to slam people like me who come on now and again seeking advice then it's a shame and at least I can be wary of that going forward.

The eggs are laid on the flowers just as they open then the larvae then burrow into the fruitlets and demolish them.
It may not be that but seems you're struggling to find the cause so thought I'd throw it in there as a possibility.
There was no trace on the ground of any small or damaged pears - nothing.
    Hi Pete,

    Thanks for the insight here.
I don't recall seeing much blackening on the fruitlets but I will certainly be mindful of that next year as I hadn't heard of that particular pest before.

    Appreciated.
