Am I killing my rose??

  • Hi again everyone

I’ve done as suggested and repotted it in the biggest pot I have with a good mix of John innes and regular compost, as well as cutting back the dead bits.

It now seems to be healthy in some places but is dropping whole sections of leaves! It has a few buds which I’m hoping bloom and that means the plant is healing, but the dropping of leaves is worrying me.

Is this due to the awful weather we’ve been having? It’s rained almost non stop for the last few weeks with barely any sun.

I don't think you need worry too much, the rose is just getting used to its new conditions and needs to establish its roots which are more important to it than the leaves, so it's dropping those to conserve energy.
Strictly speaking some people would also cut off the flower buds to also conserve the energy but I wouldn't be able to do it - up to you!

To stop the pot/rose from being waterlogged with all this rain, it would be a good idea to put some pot feet/bricks etc under the pot so the water can drain away well.

    Good luck

Thank you! That’s reassuring, I’ll make sure I put some pot feet under it and will leave it alone for now. It was a gift for a special occasion so I’m trying my best to at least keep this one plant alive  :D
