Is my Euonymus dying?

Hi there, I wondered if anyone could help. My Euonymus fortunei Emerald Gold is turning pink and wilting. I bought it and repotted it in late March and it was doing fine until early June when in started turning pink, the growing tips are becoming floppy and eventually the whole stem wilts. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Aga

To be quite honest , no shrubs or trees are suitable for pot cultivation for too long .
    Probably too dry .
  • Thanks Paul, it's potted in John Innes compost and I keep checking to make sure the compost doesn't dry out. If I was going to move it into the ground, can I do it now or is it better to wait until the autumn?

With these longer dry-spells we seem to be experiencing , if mine I would move to a semi-shaded position , keep it in the pot for now and plant out in the Autumn ; above all , keep moist .
  • Many thanks for your advice, very much appreciated

New growth on Euonymous is often pink tinged, but usually in colder weather.
What sort of size is it compared to the pot?
A photo will help too, but keeping it out of too much sun will always be better   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Are there any insects (very small) on the stems of the plant?

  • It's the older growth that is affected
  • It gets sun pretty much all day but the label said the aspect is full sun/partial shade
  • I only found a few catepillars but not many. I sprayed the plant with some bug killer and it looks like it solved that problem
