My kids have blue bike helmets and hoverflies follow them around all the time.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I saw this in the Guardian too. Haha @steephill! but I find flies are attracted to yellow clothing too. There used to be a trend for blue kitchens, with the reasoning that they would DETER flies, so I just don't know any more....confusing.... :/

I seem to be a magnet for biting insects and flies no matter what I wear.  OH, of course, is not so they feast on me.   I currently have an array of 5, red, swollen, itchy bites on the knee which will be replaced on Monday but they might have healed by then.    Another group on my collar bone and some b$stard is afetr my ankles now because everywhere else is covered up.

  • I regularly wear blue. Moreso than any other colour, but don't have a problem with flies, or being bitten. It might have something to do with the fact that the little blighters can't get through the hairs!!

Trust me, hairs won't stop them!

I get bitten and react badly (2-inch swollen red itchy lumps, sometimes more widespread swelling) whatever I wear. Only a strong repellant with deet does any good and even that's not foolproof. Antihistamine tablets and cream are always kept in the house.

My wife is the same as you, @JennyJ
I've been bitten only once - by a Welsh mossie. Years ago.

I'm like @JennyJ with anti-histmines and anti itch creams always on hand.Horse flies give me a tennis ball sized lump.  I use a spray sometimes when they're very persistant but try not to as it stinks.

OH gets buzzed but rarely bitten and he doesn't react much, but then he doesn't have a reaction to flu or Covid jabs either.  I do.

Apparently it's something to do with blood type which attracts (or repels) them.I was told by a doctor that daily vitamin B12 would make a difference. Alternatively a daily spoonful of Marmite!
