It is possible to buy organic treatments for blanket weed online. A half barrel sized pond will need constant care as the water will heat up and freeze much more quickly than a larger pond sunk into the ground, but they make lovely features on patio
It's usually only certain types of canna that can be used in water as far as I know, but even so - there wouldn't be room for anything else in there if the pond's that size, and the canna thrives.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
