I see lots or articles and jokes on the 'net about how many supplments Americans take because their hghly processed diet is so lacking in basic vitamins and minerals.
I see many other articles about how a "Mediterranean" diet high in fruit, veg, fish and protein with little or no processed foods makes you healthy and live longer in a fit state. It's easy and delicious. I don't want to live forever but I do want to stay well and alert and, apart from mechanical failures in arthritic knees, everything else is ticking along just fine.
And long may you continues to do so

Taurine abundance decreases during aging. A reversal of this decline through taurine supplementation increases health span and life span in mice and worms and health span in monkeys. This identifies taurine deficiency as a driver of aging in these species. To test whether taurine deficiency is a driver of aging in humans as well, long-term, well-controlled taurine supplementation trials that measure health span and life span as outcomes are required."

I follow a plant-based diet, but I understand that the human body can synthesise taurine from methionine and cysteine, using vitamin B6.
Most nuts and beans are high in the former, whilst cysteine can also be garnered from those foods, plus seeds, oats, legumes and most wholegrains. As such, most vegans eating a balanced diet are highly unlikely to require taurine supplements.
So it looks like I should be Ok as I eat nuts and beans and grains every day.
