I would have thought the caffeine etc would counteract any benefits,by over stimulation. See the have banned under 16 years old from buying them.

One minute they’re saying old people are a drain on the country,  needing pensions and housing for much longer,  now they want to prolong life even longer.
I dare say sales for will rocket.

Its more about the Taurine in the energy drink than the energy drink itself. You have to read the article to understand the findings on Taurine. Apparently when your young you have much higher amounts and you lose this when you get older. The findings suggest older people may benefit from doses of Taurine in old age.

But read the article to understand the science.

There were two scientists on R4 the other day who had had a bet (back in the early 2000's I think they said) that within their lifetime the first person to live to 150 would be born. Obviously they won't see out the bet, unless it's one of them.

    I did read it!
Can the world in its current situation sustain that many people.  I suppose the working age would be 110 (if there are any jobs for humans by then) then pensions paid. Farmland would be taken over with houses.
Glad I’ve only got a few years to go,  something in the future I wouldn’t like to see.

Problem with living longer is that the extra years are all at the end. As Billy Connolly once said "the bastards don't tell you that" 😂

Yes,  but we’ll all be fit as fleas so we can drive our cars,  travel on planes all in perfect health.

Maybe it balances out with a diminishing birth rate - as people will be toooooo busy in their fertile years to have kids. A world of geriatrics...Bournemouth-Worthing-Eastbourne slowly dominate the world....

I see lots or articles and jokes on the 'net about how many supplments Americans take because their hghly processed diet is so lacking in basic vitamins and minerals.

I see many other articles about how a "Mediterranean" diet high in fruit, veg, fish and protein with little or no processed foods makes you healthy and live longer in a fit state.
It's easy and delicious.  I don't want to live forever but I do want to stay well and alert and, apart from mechanical failures in arthritic knees, everything else is ticking along just fine.

The way I interpret the article is that it may (or may not) prolong life but, its more about maintaining a quality of life. I don't expect to live any longer than anyone else if I were to take it but, if it gave me a better quality of life health wise thats got to be a good thing. Its probably one of those things that will be recommended years down the line like statins to be taken as one gets older if the tests prove successful in humans or maybe not.
