I think that's a very valid point @StephenSouthwest - it often comes down to what we're looking for and how much room there is.
I often miss side shoots later on my sungolds, simply because mine are undercover and in a small space. It doesn't seem to give them a problem producing plenty of fruit  :)

Funnily enough, they were doing toms on Beechgrove last night, and removing the side shoots on the sungolds. It made me smile, because we've had quite a lot of recent discussion about the 'remove or don't' methods of growing various toms.  :)

I always manage to lose some labels, but I do sow an awful lot. I naughtily, perhaps, gave this year's not-quit-sures (I had an idea of what they were) away (along with a load of others) but don't think they were determinates. If you had not taken out the side shoots until later, it would not have made a radical difference (imo). I am not assiduous with it and I get very good harvests. Mind you I start off with good intentions and do do it at first.
I tend not to grow determinates but they usually look a bit more bushy. However I have one that's supposed to be determinate and looks no different from the indeterminates. Either I have mislabelled it or they don't all look bushy from early on.

Great thread and grateful for all the info. I have eknow staked them moved a couple and did a pinch on the sungolds. Out if interest is there much harm to be done if you prune out one or to overlapping  smaller branches. Although I moved a few space is tight and am mindful of airflow issues with the Tom's to the right of the photo
  • there  is no way tell the difference between the two given available evidence.

They look absolutely fine @darrencnel. Mine get a lot more crowded than that in my little growhouse  :)
You can always nip off a bit of foliage as time goes on too, within reason. You just want reasonable airflow around them which is usually easier when they're outside anyway.
I hope they do well for you - they're nice and healthy   :)

The pics aren't close or detailed enough to tell, but you've planted them too close to one another.
