How far apart to place marigolds?

Hello,

A neighbour gifted some marigold seeds.  I grew them bigger and I’ve put them in a pot.  It is deep (around 25cm)

I don’t know which type, but perhaps they are recognisable to marigold growers!

Have I planted them too close together?

Thank you 🌼

How close together have you planted them?  Depends on the diameter of the pot rather than the depth.

  • Oh sorry I forgot to attach the photo:

I would have put 3 or 4 in that size pot, but I suppose it depends on what type of display you want, I'm quite sure they'll all grow, but once they have it will be a little congested.

i think that’s fine,  that type don’t grow very big. Like to see them when they out in bloom.

Dare I say,  but I would pick off those first flowers to allow the plants to build up a bit.

  • @Lyn thank you for your suggestion I def want it bushier than how it currently is 👍

I used some left over compost that was Homebase own brand - I have had it from last year - probably broken down a bit as it was very bitty before!

Thank you.  Keep them dead headed as well once they get going,  you need to trick them into thinking they need to make seed so by picking off the old ones, they’ll flower more for you.  At the end you can let some ripen on the plant and keep them for next year.
