Driveway being blocked

@KT53 yes there's a dropped kerb so it's all proper, there's also a very visible driveway (often with our cars parked on it!) and a clear visual indicator of where the drive opening is with brick pillars either side.

@clematisdorset they really can! Unfortunately there's nowhere for me to put any pots or rocks as the wall is right upto the path and there's no verge on the other side, I'm not sure painting would help as I don't think they'd be able to see it (and I couldn't paint the path as that's a public footpath)

@Wild_Violet that's the sort of thing I was thinking of, but I guess it relies on someone actually giving a toss which I think is the biggest hurdle here :D:smile:

@thevictorian it's random people thankfully, but some of them do have an attitude problem so I do worry a sign will cause more problems than it solves.

@Sheps oh I am so sorry you are having to deal with that, it's just awful. Thankfully ours isn't our neighbours but random people. It's horrible that someone would say that to you, and the way they are parking is just ridiculous, some people are just the worst. Our drive isn't a million miles away from yours so I think it's quite clear to people where the entrance to the drive is!!

@philippasmith2 @Topbird good idea about the cones, only issue is I'm not sure where I'd be able to put them where they'd be visible enough to people parking, unless I put them on the road (not sure where that would put me legally) also they'd probably get nicked

@Slow-worm ah yes we get that often too, where the back wheel is level with the bit where the kerb starts to slope, so the bumper is over the drive entrance, it's frustrating. I don't mind the delivery drivers doing it as they don't hang around for long, I even don't complain when the mini-buses are queuing there (just ask them to move if we happen to be going out) but people leaving their cars and buggering off is something different!!

@rowlandscastle444 hahaha, they must have thought you'd marked a bay out for them! I am tempted by getting a white line, I'm thinking if nothing else it gives those with reversing cameras a better idea of where the edge is. How much did it cost to get the line painted?

@JennyJ we could but then it just means moving our car to get out everytime, plus the road isn't super wide so I don't like to leave my car on it if I can avoid it.

I'm not sure why but it's been worse than ever the last week. I had to go out about an hour ago and ask someone to move their car forwards so they aren't blocking the drive, she tried to tell me she wasn't blocking the drive and that the dropped kerb ended "there" (points to bumper of her car) and I said no it doesn't, it ends over there, she looked around the back of her car at the kerb and begrudgingly moved it, no apology or "oh sorry I didn't realise". And again just to reiterate, she was blocking our drive with the back of her car, by about 50cms (our drive is only 2.8m wide so that's all it takes).

Guess we'll put up with it for now and see if things settle down, just don't get the lack of respect from people, I'd never park blocking someones drive unless it belonged to a person I was visiting and they told me to do so!

Thanks for all your advice and commiserations

I don’t s’pose you know a couple of chaps with big vans who could park right up very close to the car in question so that they can’t manoeuvre out … and then leave them there a few days.

🤔  It’d almost be worth paying someone to do it ……… 😉

I'm sure people are so frustratingly rude because we're highlighting their poor driving skills, and embarrassing them.
@Dovefromabove that's an excellent plan, I like your style. Any vehicle will do, and maybe leave an anger management leaflet visible in it, or some boxing gloves. 🤭

    That's my plan @Dovefromabove

As soon as I win the lottery, I'm moving to Thornham but, before I leave I'm buying 4 big vans and parking them either side of the shared driveway, all legally parked of course as I wouldn't want to cause any problems 😃

You’ll be very welcome here in Norfolk Sheps (I take it you mean ‘our’ Thornham). 😊 ☕️ 🫖 🍰

I do @Dovefromabove I'd live there in a heartbeat, although I love the Yorkshire Dales, I'd rather live on the North Norfolk coast.

It’s a beautiful place indeed @Sheps … and the neighbours are lovely 😇

Our white line was painted about 15 years ago, and cost about £35 at the time. It wasn't a huge expense, and designed to remind people NOT to park there.
A fat lot of good that was. Mostly. I must say that a few people do actually get out of their cars and check, then go to park elsewhere if they are over the line. So it does SOME good.
I get animated about inconsiderate parkers. I've collected most of the car registration numbers of neighbours, so if they park over the drive, I can at least go to the correct house and ask them to move.
    Grrrrr!!!
