I have lots of nepeta plants in the garden and it seems at least one local cat likes to poop on the plants. I can't figure out if it wants to save all the plants for itself or it it gets so high, it can't move and has to poop where it lies.
I had to wrestle the allotment cat off a newly planted nepeta and ended up covering the plant with a bucket until I could get a wire cover to protect the plant.
I had one tutor who used to make nepeta stuffed toy mice for rescue cats in Holland.
I had six hills giant growing in our garden but the cats absolutely destroyed it. The next door cat would just roll in it until it was all flat and broken, so I dug it up and gave it to them. I still grow it down the allotment and I've seen cats but not seen any damage to the plants.
I'd love to grow nepeta as it's so good for bees and long flowering but I don't want to attract anymore cats to the garden as we are plagued locally by them (I like cats but wildlife more so I'd be more than happy if I never saw one outside ever again).
I have recently considered getting one of the smaller varieties and growing it in a hanging basket for a try.
