Speaking of plant swaps, @B3 - thank you very much!

They look great. Was it the variety you were after? I left a bit behind in the bed by mistake and it's bravely growing so I'll leave it be. My path must be a good growing medium. I chucked a huge clump of some ornamental grass or other in the same spot as I had dumped your peony. It was too heavy to haul to the compost heap. That's growing away too.🙄
The plants you gave me are all doing well.

It occurred to me when I was outside earlier with a cuppa, that I have thrift growing in the gravel by the pond. It just does it's own thing, so that might work too. I also have an alpine geranium, which is much the same colour as the thrift [dark, strong pink] so that might be an idea, especially as it's technically an alpine pan you have  :)

Just shows the different conditions doesn't it? I can honestly say I've never had a saucer under any plant, unless it's temporary for some rehydrating because I've not watered it for ages!

I have Origanum Kent Beauty in a shallow pot.  It's not edible but beautiful in summer with long lasting pink flowers.

It is the right kind @B3 though slightly paler than I expected. Lovely though!

    I like both those ideas, @Fairygirl 👍🏼
I've never come across that oregano before @Jemula - what an interesting plant!
All food for thought, thank you.

Erodium is another name for alpine geranium if you're looking for them @LG.  I had one in a similar pot to yours with a 50/50 topsoil/grit mix and it flowered all summer.

I can't remember the name of my little geranium @Plantminded [no surprise there!] but it's like a tiny Patricia, or Ann Folkard in colour, but with green foliage. I used to have G. Ballerina which is paler, but with lovely veining.

The one I have might be G. subcaulescens...

Yes, they are nice little plants @Fairygirl, and popular with bees!

I saw a nice Erodium for sale at a garden I visited today (Down House, Charles Darwin's home) but then I didn't buy it. Wish I had now!
