It is not anybody's forum as far as I'm concerned. It is a collective of gardeners and folks interested in gardening that share knowledge and through that have become friends. Shame that offenders some folks
I wonder if I'm part of the collective, maybe 😀 or maybe not 😞
From my long experience on here (some may say too long but hey ho … I can’t help the time passing) I would say if you want to be part of ‘the collective’ then you are … if you don’t then you’re probably not.
It’s like any other ‘gardening club’. Most folk go to meetings, stay afterwards, have a coffee and a chat, get to know each other, arrange to meet up elsewhere, and over the passage of time some of them become real friends.
There’s always a few folk who don’t want to do that … they attend meetings, take what they want from them and return home perfectly happy. There’s room for both in any club.
What I don’t understand is why some people want to criticise others simply because they don’t do as they do.
If some folk wake early and want to post on the forum at 6am as far as I’m aware there’s no rules saying I shouldn’t. 🥱 ☕️

Good morning @Sheps 😊 but I posted on Wordle Wanderings at 4:43 … then went back to sleep. It’s been a bit of a tricky time in the Dove family this spring. 🙄

Honestly know need to leave the Forum it is great you can learn plenty on here an no doubt you can share on knowledge.
But like so many Forums it is overtaken by a few people, who can post the same old dribble from 6 am in the morning, just another post to add to the same old crud they spill out on a daily basis. they do not have 50k of posts for nothing,
Just add where you can with good advice and sound knowledge, not dribble posts.
I left but now I pick who I reply to and who genuinely deserves my time and effort. I pretty discount all newbies as they pretty much never reply.
6 AM IS COMING WATCH FOR THOSE POSTERS.
Mr Mow this is the potting shed where people can chat about anything and it is clear from the name of the threads that they don't have garden content. Why do you open them? And now I am going to dribble in the gardening crafters thread.
If you choose to take part, then you become part, if you don't then you can't really expect to be. Just an observation, which I am sure will disagreed with, but the majority of the disaffected, seem to be new posters who don't get their own way and don't like being disagreed with. The forum has survived for many years, people come, people go, some stay and so it continues.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
There seems to be and underlying resentment on the part of some members. This bubbles to the surface from time to time. Perhaps these members would be happier on one of the other forums.
I hope you have a re-think, @Winston_The_Gravity_Man, and decide to stay, even if you choose to just dip in and out of the forum. There’s lots of kind, helpful folk on here, willing and able to give advice on a whole range of things. 😁
I do hope you stay on the forum Winston and you’re not driven out by a few gruff silly arses.
I have dipped into a few other gardening forums and this one is undoubtedly my favourite because the discussion takes the form of fully developed questions and answers written in complete and cogent sentences. Contrasting viewpoints, as witnessed on the recent Chelsea thread, are usually accepted with tolerance.
Also, if an ID question is posed you can be almost certain the answer will very soon settle on the correct reply and the thread will not be littered with wild guesses or the same answer repeated 47 times over the course of the next couple of days. Another thing I like is the absence of the exhortation to “be kind” which is taken by so many as an instruction to agree with the constant repetition of loopy Facebook tips, sorry hacks, on how to deal with slugs or weeds, ideas that are repeated ad nauseam but not objectively tested once. Counteracting that advice is just feeding strawberries to dogs.
As someone who wavers greatly between “silent observer” and “asker of daft questions “ , I can honestly say I love how we all integrate so well in this forum. Not overly “judgmental” or “snarky”, but always a helping hand and encouragement to keep going. Shame if anyone feels pushed out as it takes all types to make a real community and one of the main strengths has to always be tolerance. The chitchat is part of the charm of this as a “safe space” and allows for a frustration valve and a healthy giggle in good measure.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
