    I don't think it's a companula - it's four feet high

    Campanulas do get to a good height. We have one which regularly tops 8 feet.

    Canterbury bells?

    They’re what my mum called Canterbury bells I think the proper name is Campanula.

    it looks like it could be some kind of Canterbury bells altho the flowers aren't open yet the buds look the same as the Google images
    presumably it self seeded in my window boxes

    I agree. It's exactly like the one we have in the garden and yes, it can get to four feet high and taller! Ours does.

    it's been there since last year so presumably they're biennial
    it survived the snow

    hopefully it's a little more appealing when it flowers😂
