Whilst not challenging other's advice, my instinct would be not to disturb them at this stage of their development. I'd put a handful of chicken manure pellets, and another of granulated lime, in a plastic container. Fill with water, Shake vigorously. Stand the plants in shallow trays/saucers and fill with the liquid (the trays, that is). As the nutrients capillarise up through the compost, the roots will head down for them and produce a healthy rootstock, ready for planting. CM for feed and lime to combat any acidity.
I agree with @raisingirl, I think they are hungry. That's why I asked about the compost. I dig in a bit of fish, blood and bone fertiliser when I plant them out.
