The first rose above is looking more and more like a rambler and sending out shoots all over the place. Its flowers have started to open, they are single, bright pink with a white blob in the middle. There are loads of bunches of buds. I didn't see any flowers last year as I was in Norfolk last May and most of June and it didn't repeat.
I think it looks like American Pillar. What do you think? @Marlorena, @Nollie? If it is it will have to come out this winter, far too big for the bed. Was supposed to be a not too tall red shrub rose, Darcey Bussell. There is a white rose in front of it in the photo.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
When I was a child a school friend’s family had ‘American Pillar’ growing up a big old linen post in the garden where I played with her and her sisters … it looked just like yours @Busy-Lizzie … I remember it so well. Happy days 😊

The Pilgrim? rose in the first photo is planted and growing and has now produced a paler yellow flower that looks as though it is The Pilgrim after all

Yes I think so... not only the flowers but the bristly buds and other features suggest so..
