Two Roses, Incorrect Labels

Busy-LizzieBusy-Lizzie Posts: 24,043
I bought this rose in the weekly market in my local French town. It has a David Austin label on it which says "The Pilgrim". I've had The Pilgrim at my last house and it isn't that. A flower has come out and it is a deeper yellow with a beigey apricot tinge. A new bud has a slight red streak on it. Does anyone know what it is please? Hard to tell on Internet, the colours vary so much on the photos. @Marlorena?

The second rose was sold to me by Promesse des Fleurs, mail order. Last year it grew a lot of long stems sideways in all directions, no flowers - or else I was away when it flowered. I bought an obelisk and wound it around that. It is supposed to "Darcey Bussell" but she is a shrub. This rose is now taller than me, over 6ft. There are lots of bunches of small buds, not out yet so I don't know the colour. Any ideas? Probably impossible before the flowers are out though.

@Busy-Lizzie I have Darcy Bussell she is a small shrub. Lovely colour and scent but a martyr to black spot. I think that may be why David Austin have discontinued her. Flowers are red if that helps? I think you have been missold.

Sorry I can't really help but the lower one doesn't look like an English Rose of the Austin class..

The 'not' Pilgrim, perhaps 'Crown Princess Margarita'?

Thank you both. I would be very happy if it were Crown Princess Margarita. I lost mine when I moved house.

I'll have to wait and see what the flowers are like for the other one.

Assuming it’s a yellow Austin, I can rule out Golden Celebration as the foliage is wrong, that is a much lighter green without the red flushing. I don’t think it’s Graham Thomas either but I didn’t have it long enough to rightly recall. So what’s left? Charlotte, Teasing Georgia, Molineux..

No idea about the second, definitely not Darcy!

Thanks @Nollie. I have Golden Celebration and Graham Thomas and it isn't either. I had Teasing Georgia too, not her. It has an apricot tint in its yellow, not a true yellow. I wondered about Bring me Sunshine. I looked at Molineux, could be that as DA says tinged with orange before becoming yellow. I would be happy with that too.

I would be happy with a Molineaux too, Lizzie, I’m often tempted to try that one. Or thrilled with a Crown Princess Margareta, since that one got lost on the way to me from Germany and is now hard to track down.

Could it be Pat Austin @Busy-Lizzie? Mine does look like that from my memory of last years blooms. They were very heavy though and drooped down disappointingly, beautiful though.

Hello @D0rdogne_Damsel, no not as orange as Pat Austin and the flowers don't droop.

I sent photos of the not Darcey Bussell to Promesse des Fleurs and they agreed it isn't and have refunded me  :)
