Is growing huge vegetables a man thing? I've never seen a woman standing proudly by a preposterous pumpkin
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I think you’re right B,   It’s also an American thing,  they really need to do things bigger and better than the UK.

  • there are not as many women growers giant pumpkins as men.
the WR grower was a woman several years ago.
giant vegetable are a thing in Uk as well  collin bowcock
and Bernard Lavery prime examples of this.

genetics and growing techniques are major factor in the resulting size.
    will post more later

  • Blimey, @BenCotto, are they real pumpkins in those photos ?  They're flippin' enormous ! :o   Wonder what they taste like ?
When there's always biscuits in the tin, where's the fun in biscuits ?
  • You're right, @war garden 572, the UK has an ancient and venerable history of producing ridiculously enormous vegetables.
There's a bloke on t'allotments in Wrexham who's very good at it.  The prices he says he's paid for some of his seeds make me gulp but it's his hobby so good luck to him.  Can't see him splurging $195 on just one seed though.
Maybe it's not such a popular sport with the fairer sex is because they're not very good at it ?!  (waiting for a low level nuclear explosion in reply :D)
