Would you pay £100 or more for three vegetables seeds?

The reason I asked is seen I auctions for giant pumpkin seeds for that much
and more.
I have also seen auction lots with five type of giant vegetable seeds
with 25 total seeds in the lot go for over £40.

Some here in past have complained of limited seeds in packets and high prices
for new variety packets. but these type of seed prices and gentics are on another
level.

does this surprise you are you repulsed by it.
what's is your opinion ?

Something's value is what someone will pay for it. I've seen houseplant cuttings go for crazy prices in recent years and the more people pay the more desirable something becomes apparently. I've seen people pay good money for plants I give away for free because they're so easy to propagate.

Pumpkins contain about 500 seeds apparently but seeds are fickle things and I wonder how they guarantee the genetics? Good profits for the prize winning growers though I guess.

I think the world has gone a bit mad recently when it comes to judging value but there's always worse things you could be spending money on.

Yes, I read this book years ago about herd mentality, tulip mania and other various 'bubbles' very interesting and an essential read for keen investors.

I found a diamond on the floor of my car a couple of years ago. It was quite large and very sparkly. I went online to see how to verify it was real and it passed all the tests except one. Apparently it's a manufactured diamond worth about £10 but to the average person it looks no different from the ones that children die mining for. The industry must be working very hard to convince people that the man-made diamonds are worth less than the real thing.

Paid £2.50 for pack of chilli seeds I wanted from GC found 8 seeds in it and none germinated. Thank goodness for the free packet with this magazine. 100% germination. .

Diamonds have a very false value. All about good marketing. They're plentiful and should be as cheap as chips. Or maybe cheaper - have you seen the price of those?

If I were trying to grow a record breaking pumpkin I might consider it, but I'm not so no I wouldn't.

But it's the same with animals, here you can get a kitten for free, or you can pay several thousand for a kitten of a rare breed, either way you get a cat just not quite the same cat.
