That's why I suggested using some of the ones you normally grow, if you have any.
I tried some seed squeezed out of bog standard plum toms from the supermarket, as I only had a few of the ones I normally have left. They germinated fine too in my own mix. I now have too many, but that's ok. I'll be pricking them out in the next day or two, but they're a fraction of the size they should be by this time. That's gardening!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Sorry I should have clarified - I usually get the other variety I usually grow as small plants from Homebase - I haven’t grown from seed previously - as I wasn’t sure I could. I was determined this year to have a go!
Had the same problem. Used used coffee grounds, if you have any, added to the compost on my second attempt which is very beneficial for the seedlings according to my search engine and is also working well with my chilli seedlings which was also a disaster first time around.
It's always a bit of an experiment when you start out with seed sowing. I knew the basics when I started doing that, rather than buying a few plants - the same as you did, but it's all about timing and conditions, and back then - any MPC was absolutely fine for virtually any seed. That's where it's become trickier recently IMO.
