This is another Cotinus @B3, C.Grace, it really lights up in sunlight.  They can become large shrubs so you will need to decide whether you'll have space in the ground once it gets too big for your pot:

Saxifraga x urbium? Easy to care and looks good year round, though it might get a bit boring in the summer.

I have a bit that I'm nurturing @pitter-patter .Thank you @LG_. It's doing well at the moment but I don't dare mess with it yet. It looks great. I like the idea of red and black.  Something to consider in the future😊

Something else you might like to put in your container... line the base of the container with 'insect mesh'.

Just planted strawberries from the pots I planted their bare roots, some of them weren't doing so well, and I soon discovered why: they had a cutworm (?) hiding in their roots. They could only have got in the pot through the drainage holes at the bottom. This wasn't the only time I had this problem.

So now I've made a vow to line the bottom of every pot with the mesh.

I went to a garden centre yesterday and I was so busy trying to avoid toddlers who were attempting to throw themselves under the wheels of my trolley, I gave up trying to find the plants people were kind enough to suggest.
I bought a tray of red geraniums and planted them in the container . I'll have a look in the autumn for something more permanent.  Seeing as they were teabagged that might be sooner rather than later.
