What to put in this container.

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

This container is black glazed terracotta. 35 cm diameter and 30cm high
I'm a bit stumped as to what to put in it. I have enough container roses and I think acers are usually better off in the ground. I also have stacks of ferns and hostas. Deciduous is fine. In fact I think I'd prefer it.
Container will be on sheltered patio in either full light shade , partial shade or full sun depending on plant.I
Suggestions would be very welcome.

I think Erigeron would make a lovely contrast with the colour of the pot.

Thank you @Bluejayway. I'll have a look at them. I think I have some that LG gave me. That would certainly be cheap!

If it's shade, Hakonechloa, Astelia Silver Spear or perhaps Carex oshimensis Everillo. They will all happily take some sun too.

A young Cotinus (green leaved variety) until it’s ready to plant out in the garden in a year or two, a shrubby Salvia, or a selection of Mediterranean herbs would all look good in your black pot.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Never thought of grass @KeenOnGreen. The Astelia is a bit spikey for me. But the others are well worth considering.
@Plantminded I m not familiar with cotinus. Will look out for that in GC too . I have a lot of shrubby salvias. Some have survived the winter but I'm not sure which. Probably royal bumble. That's another good idea that wouldn't have occurred to me

Anything that you would like to be able to move about or move to shelter in extreme summer or winter conditions!
