It does depend on the plugs too - some are grown in small plastic root trainers for example, but it's hard to know without photos, until you actually get them. If a site showed them grown in trainers, and you got them in teabags, I expect you could have a case for a refund if they don't thrive.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
For context and comparison to marlorenas, here are my geraniums. I got 3 bare roots (on offer at the time so only paid 4.50 for 3). I potted them up about 4 weeks ago and actually got 5 plants as there were a couple of wee bits of extra root I planted up thinking nothing would come of them. A bargain if you ask me and not a teabag in sight.
Hopping on this thread. I bought a Cistus (‘thrive’) recently, and discovered when planting today that it had been started off in one of those bags. The pot it was in however was quite a bit bigger and it did have roots that were outside the bag. Will the bag cause a problem? I did manage to rip the bag a little but wouldn’t have been able to get it out completely without significantly disturbing the roots.
Don't worry about your Cistus... 'Thrive' will thrive regardless, it's tough roots are well able to cope with the netting.. Enjoys a hot, dry, sunny site..
@Marlorena is that yours? Looks lovely! Either way, thank you for putting my mind at ease 😁 It’s in a pot as I have heavy soil, so should definitely stay dry (mind you I did have a cistus chelsea bonnet, which sadly died this winter, that survived in my clay soil for probably a good decade!). It’s in a nice sunny spot too
I've. Just spent a tenner on a tray of geraniums. The all have unreachable teabags. I've probably done more damage to the roots trying to rip them a bit.I One way to tell if tea bags are present if you can't see them is if you see the roots growing straight up the sides of the pot or module rather than collecting in a tangled mass at the bottom
I was unable to remove the tea bags properly and some of them were a kind of stiff black plastic with holes punched in. I did the best I could. My plants are flowering well but there's no leaf growth or stem thickening at all. The plants are all pretty much the same size as when I planted them weeks ago. When the buds the osteospermum came with are finished, I don't think any more are likely to develop.
