Has Weigela gone out of fashion?

The white one has plain green foliage @Plantminded  :)
I have other planting around it for seasonal interest, but it's a largely white bed along the boundary, and it gives a green backdrop when more colourful planting is taking over  in the area in the centre of the garden.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Not my favourite shrub but saw a super on in a garden in Perth last year with pink flowers.
Used to grow Weigela  middendorffiana with yellow flowers that I loved.

    Weigela seen in Perth.

@WAMS I know the feeling with pronunciations, but here goes .
    Weigela I pronounce, "Whyjela".
The je sound is like saying gee as in calling horses gee-gees?

If I am not sure of a pronunciation I usually say it how I might think it is and tell whoever I am talking to I have never heard the word said out loud so not sure.
I think most people are understanding and will be kind. Anyone who is rude or unkind is not worth speaking to or wasting your time on.

Sorry off on a tangent  @alfharris8.
    I like Weigela too.
Although I do tend to dislike variegated foliage with a pale pink like @Fairygirl :D
    But.
We have the pink flowered variegated florida one, it was here when we moved in and as mentioned the bees love it. It flowers its socks off and the whole thing buzzes.
So it has stayed ,despite my dislike, I am fond of it.

I have recently bought a clematis called Rhapsody (deep purple colour),  to grow through it. I stole the idea from the breeder Barry Fretwell, after seeing it in his book on companion planting.
Fingers crossed it will prolong the interest and look nice.

  • My weigela, I believe ‘Alexandra’ although I can’t remember but that’s what it looks like, insists on staying tiny. I moved it probably about 4 or so years ago into a spot with space to grow, where I hoped it would screen a patio section. But no, still it’s about only 40cm high or so. Don’t think it’s even grown in years. Still, it has nice flowers!

I just hate pale pink altogether @Rubytoo :)
I pronounce it 'Wy-geela', with  the 'g' soft,  as in 'j'.

Who was being rude about the rose name @WAMS? Hope it wasn't someone on here. I'd assume it was pronounced as in the place/castle Alnwick, but is it different?  It [the place in the north of England] is pronounced like the town of Annick, up here in Ayrshire.  :)

I was hoping @Silver surfer would treat us with some lovely photos.
It seems as though they are considered a bit straggly and garish (with exceptions).
I quite liked the look of a small one called Ebony and Ivory I had seen on the Crocus website but never in the flesh.
    Thanks for all the responses.

I've got a 'Bristol Ruby' here - I like them because they take the cold wind - most shrubs of that size just turn up their toes here

@silversur@"Silver surfer" lovely photos of your Weigela Middendorffiana! I have recently bought this plant, and it has gorgeous flowers. I hope the bees appreciate it.

    @Silver surfer lovely photos!

    Thank you...most kind.
I sometimes wonder if others are annoyed by my endless supply of pics.
i try to keep it relevant.
