No swifts yet in West Kent, we're lucky to have a good population of skylarks though, love hearing their song. The odd swallow is around and I heard a cuckoo last week but not since.
The decline of swifts, swallows and martins is really apparent here.

No swifts yet but we had over 20 martins and a few swallows over the garden yesterday

I do have a pair of collared doves nesting on top of my security light and the hedgehogs are back. That’ll keep me going til the swifts return.

Saw 2 swifts yesterday in Bournemouth, dipping and diving for insects! Anyone else?

  • Scarborough, North Yorkshire Coast has had more Alpine Swifts (3) than Common Swifts (1) this year (3rd May) so far!!!!

Been meaning to put up a swift box for this year, not managed it yet.  But i have built a couple of hog hotels and my neighbour agreed to allow me to cut several 6" holes along the bottom of our shared fence every 2mtrs though.

There's been a couple of reports of swifts locally but not many yet. There are still very few swallows and martins about from what I can see too :/  I was on a wetlands nature reserve yesterday and probably saw 15-20 swallows and house martins at most. I'm starting to get worried. Hopefully they'll turn up en-masse in the next week or so.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Do we think that the heatwave in Spain may have hampered their progress here? I hope not.

    I live in hope. 🤞🏻
