  • Thanks for all your help on this. I've spotted another one just growing randomly. I suppose I could put it in a gap in the hedge?

    If there's a plum, or similar, tree anywhere nearby then fast growing thorny "saplings" like these are likely to be suckers from the rootstock. I have a gage tree that almost managed to create a 1.5m tall X 5m long  thorny hedge in a year as I wasn't paying attention to that bit of the garden.
