Yes- that crossed my mind after I posted @JennyJ, re the bulb size. It's a common reason for them not flowering, although there can be other reasons too.  :)

I should have said to give the bulbs a feed or two as they die back, and then do the separating after the foliage is done @carolesweeney243, and that will mean the bulbs get their nourishment for next year  :)

Yes you can plant these together in a pot and they would probably be fine. Try to do the same in heavy clay in my garden the daffs will be fine but the tulips could rot. Many buyers are unaware of this but the growers know better and just want to sell them as expensively as possible it would seem
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • you guys are amazing, i should have saved more of the cardboard picture as it does look similar, although i know we weren't sold mixed packs, naughty peeps if that is what they did, still it was a talking point.  When they have finished flowering i will try to separate and keep them going, although the daffs haven't emerged, so maybe take pot luck, or just chuck the lot as start again for next year, and keep the packaging! :) thank you all so much for your input, still feel like a numpty though, think a g&t is calling next to my tudaffs, take care all and thanks again

Not a numpty at all @carolesweeney243 - you bought something and it hasn't been what you really expected  :)
Most tulips don't return reliably, and as @GardenerSuze said - they require quite specific conditions, but the daffs should be ok - and if you get them into a pot of their own, they should come again next year. Best in the ground, but in a pot is fine, especially if you feed them a few times as described.
Meanwhile - enjoy your tulips  :)

  • thank you for your kind words, i only have patio at the back, hence container planting but do have a proper piece of garden at the front of the house, i think i will transplant the daffs to the front, i have a fair few wild flowers coming up there after using 2 boxes of seed over the last few years, only under the hedge, not in the lawn, so i think they will look good there as well. to be honest i am no gardener and normally beg borrow and sometimes pinch a few bits but i do enjoy what i have, strange tudaffs, lily of the valley and lots of other spring bulbs through to summer flowering shrubs and jasmines and my pride and joy my 2 fig trees, in pots, but they have put a root down, which fruit profusely, and i have 6 fig cuttings doing very well, dont know where to put them though, summer figs here we come yay :) , i will stop now, thanks again, take care
