daffodils

last year planted some fairly expensive fancy daffodils, they had a tulip type leaf, cream outside petals and the middle was a peach and cream ruffle,  they were a bit late flowering, so this year waiting in anticipation to be presented with...... a beautiful colour pink... tulip, anyone else had this phenomenon or am i just a real bad gardener, they are in containers not in the garden. thanks

Are you suggesting a Daffodil has turned into a Tulip???
How can you lie there and think of England

  • i know, sounds daft, but yes...... unless there is another explanation, i havent touched the container, it was just stored under a table in the garden for a bit of protection, i have pictures of last year and this year but dont know how to post them

I think you've either bought, or been supplied with, tulips to start with [as you've said 'tulip like leaf '] or there's been a random tulip in with the daffs.
If you click on the icon that looks like hills, that's the one for photos. Keep them smaller so that they load easily.  :)

  • thank you, giving it a go, there is a last years flower at the bottom, what they look like now at the top and a pic of the packet i bought them in, i think i have answered my own question, on the cardboard they have a pink outer petal that goes away, but this year they dont have the daff in the middle so i think they are sort of blind

The top photo has tulips but also daffodil foliage. You have both types of plants/bulbs in the pot.
The photo of the packet is either misleading, or the pack had both tulips and daffs. I'd say the latter - the daffs haven't changed, they're either blind or have yet to flower  :)

what I can see of the packet looks like daff and tulip, that bright pink isn't a daff colour and the bit on the right looks like the base of a Tulip. Curious mix to pack together, they don't match or contrast well do they.

    Not a combo I'd want @nutcutlet :/
Perhaps that's the point though - different timings for them, so the colour wouldn't matter so much.  :)

  • thank you for the info, didnt have tulips last year but maybe they were  a bit delayed :) i have to say, my mother has exactly the same issue, no bonny daff but a very pretty tulip... think i will start again, thanks again for all of your help, take care and keep on gardening :)

If you're careful, you should be able to tip the pot out and separate the two sets of bulbs, and pot them separately  :)

I agree, probably a mixed pack something like this one (hope you didn't pay that price though :o). The tulips were maybe undersized and produced only leaves last year.
