Chainsaw

We have a lot of trees including a big eucalyptus. Hubby has been talking about getting a chainsaw. We looked into hiring, and some years ago got tree surgeons in just for this one. Both very expensive. He was looking at places like Toolstation, to buy a small one wondering if anyone on here has an electric one,are they any good? Or better to go for petrol. Thanks.

He'll need some safety training and other safety equipment to go with it, they are very dangerous tools in the wrong hands.

how big is big for a Eucalyptus? If it's huge you'll probably need petrol and I don't think the electric will do it. My neighbour has an electric one which he's happy with smaller stuff. We've always had petrol as some of our trees were big

Hubby says it's over 60 feet. Yes he would buy safety equipment, and someone strong and male (hope that's not sexist!!) Would be holding the ladder at the bottom. He is very safety aware. He was the only person in his garage qualified to use an angle grinder. He's up the tree now with a handsaw.nutculet, both my neighbours have battery tools, including mowers,we all have 100 foot long lawns and they are pathetic. Can you spot him in the middle of the tree!

you should NEVER use a chainsaw when you're up a ladder. That's why tree surgeons use ropes.

Do not use any chainsaw without the proper PPE and professional training I ran my own garden machinery business for several years, we had a surgeon as a regular customer and told us that the worst injury ever is made by chainsaw chain as it shreds flesh not cuts it. Also an electric saw is no good for a 60ft tree. I know it would be more expensive but get professional in to do the job it could be cheaper in the long run

He would use proper PPE..I have seen a lot of tree surgeons on ladders, platforms.i was going to work one night,(the ED,as a lot of you folks know) went through a Surrey village, I actually lived in over 40 years ago. There was a bloke cutting a very high hedge. He had one of the old land rovers. Drivers window open, and he was standing on the closed door/window ledge. Tongue was bitten with difficulty. You can hire them in our hire shops, presumably they don't give you a course. It's partly cost, partly the worry of getting a decent job. I don't know anyone who has trees this size who has used a professional. My daughter who moved here last year, had to fork out £300 to have a fir hedge about 30 long cut,and this was several years ago.Bencotto, cheeky,he's a not wally. I think some of these idiots on YouTube just do these things as a joke, why would you actually video
He's not cutting down a 60 foot tree. It gets pruned about every 2 months, when it's dry and not windy
Anyone on here live Eastbourne way then, know a good tree surgeon and PM me.

Can't help much @Nanny Beach other than to say I have a huge Ash tree - double trunk and probably about 80 feet high.  Conservation Area so permission always needed to do anything to it.  I had it pruned by a recommended Tree Surgeon in 2019 when I moved here.  The cost was £600 and I was advised to have it pruned again in 3 or 4 years time.  Missed the time slot this year but will have to do something next year - I'm assuming the cost will have risen somewhat !!
Hope you get sorted anyway  :)

Just to ad to the horror stories, I had two deaths on my ICU as a result of chainsaw injuries, both in experienced tree surgeons.
