I usually manage to offload surplus plants to family and friends.

I leave them outside the front fence.

Join your local Hardy Plant Society group, or other community garden. I offload a few plants onto Bulwell Forest Garden near me.... I haven't had any plants in return as I am incredibly picky and only interested in very specific plants at this stage!

'@Loxley I am very picky too. My daughters gave up years ago, bags of compost, with a bow make a great present.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • Our local (i.e. Southampton) gardening society has an annual plant sale 1st Friday in April.
    Southampton
  • Likewise being picky about the plants I now put in my garden..
I leave any surplus plants on a table inside a low stone wall where there is a community garden, run by volunteers. They grow a selection of veg which anyone can help themselves to, as well as surplus seeds and plants. I usually have a look around the veg. on offer and have a couple of times helped myself to a few beans and some windfall apples in exchange for plants. The last time I visited them I gave them some large clumps of lily bulbs for the freebie table but they decided to plant them in the garden.
