I directly sowed mine the first week in April - very slow but forming decent roots now altho I don't think ready to harvest yet. For free seeds, they were worth trying but I will wait and see what I think of the end result
I’ve started properly harvesting mine just now. I’ve been experimenting with growing them in old chimney pots. They’re now nice and big and straight. The few I picked as thinning’s a month or so ago were a little bland as @barry island noted above, but these fully grown are tasty enough, if not particularly special compared to shop bought. I’d say they’re more suited as a main crop cooker rather than as earlies or salad.
ETA: oddly for an Australian cultivar these did better for me in a partly shaded area rather than full sun. Those I put in full sun and sowed 2 weeks earlier than others are still not up to the size of these grown in part shade.
@mxr7xfp7qbAv8KXQS6 Yours certainly look better than the ones I managed. Free seed so no problem but nothing to write home about IMO. Much prefer my Chantenay.
i have harvested and eaten most of mine they grew good and straight without any problems so on first appearance were ideal but have to agree the taste wasn't great so I won't bother with them again.
