Anyone grow the carrot variety 'Top Weight'?

I received a free packet of 'Top Weight' carrot seeds but as these are sold in Australia and New Zealand rather than the UK has anyone experienced growing this variety over here?

Me too @barry island  ( from D T Brown ? )  Says they are the favourite carrot in Australia.
I usually do Chantenay or similar but I'm going to try the freebies this year/  Sowing in the next week or 2 I think for me.

They're the ones @philippasmith2 I have sown half a row but just in case I bought a packet of Nantes to sow the rest of the row.

My soil is mainly clay which changes consistency depending on how wet it is to how compacted it has become, sometimes it can be as sticky as potters clay and others it is light and crumbly where the sand content can be felt, it isn't stone free but not particularly stony either, I have found that Nantes grow pretty well although I'm not too sure what difference there is between Nantes 2 and Nantes 5 or whether the numbers make a difference at all. I'm not sure why DT Brown sent the free packet of Top Weight seeds as I don't believe that they are sold in the UK maybe their Australian branch had a glut of them.

@philippasmith2 The half row of Top Weight carrots have germinated well so I have sown another batch, so the favourite carrot of Australia will grow in blighty after all although they are protected under a cloche tunnel.

@barry island  That sounds promising.  No sign here yet ( outside/no protection ).  I think I'll show them your post - see if that may wake them up  ;)

@philippasmith2 We have had a few sunny days in the last two weeks so it would have got hot under the plastic it may have fooled them now all we need is for the weather to warm up to grow them on.
  • I’ve put a few of these in (free seeds from DT Brown) - be interested to hear how all you who started earlier are doing with Topweight.

Hi I harvested carrot top weight today they looked good we had them in a salad they weren't very sweet maybe better when they are cooked.
  • I also got a free sample and sowed them mid March in a commercial sized polytunnel.
I picked a sample this week, they weren't anything raw but they were delicious cooked, sweet and flavoursome also they were a good size for 100 days
Planning another sowing this week for harvest later in the year or even into next year.
Found this forum looking for seeds for future use.
