@bede Roses wouldn't be in my top ten of plants.  I have lost track of how many I have planted  not in my own garden but for others that love them. I grow just two, both singles, R Rushing Stream and R Glauca.
I can admire them but have no real interest in growing them. A wet June can be disappointing when a year has passed and the ones with multi petals 'ball'.

I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Big Lime trees that spray sap - cars parked under these trees used to be sticky when I lived in London.
I wish I could garden all year round!

some might argue the trees are more useful than the cars

Generally speaking, anything that requires a lot of cutting back to keep in check - invasives, yes, but even some weedy natives. For me, that's photinia, nandina, ivy, Virginia creeper (which irritates my skin, too), something my dad calls "old timey hedge" though I have no idea what the real name is, bamboo, Carolina moonseed, and vinca (not sure if it's major or minor, but it pops up everywhere). I planted one physostegia last year with the understanding that the white type was less aggressive, but based on the number of new plants that popped up this spring I may regret this one.
