Looking at the design I don't think you need to fit the filters if using just one reservoir, I believe the filters are there just to stop the connecting pipe from blocking.

Okay thanks for that Sheps.  I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed!!

I was worried about not using the filter when  REMF33 said they had gone through a load of filters!!

I would say it is way too early in the growing season for the roots to possibly block the pipe.

But, saying that I don't have your version of the Quadgrow.

Thought I would post this here too:

v promising although I might get upgrade envy... I was worrying about maybe needing new washers so hopefully they will supply them if I do, although will be too late for this year.

p.s. you wouldn't need the filters if you spliut them in two @kitty52 surely? They are to stop the connecting 'pipe' from getting bunged up with roots, I think.

Yes that is very kind @LeadFarmer

Sorry I didn't see your comment about filters @Sheps (was using my phone to view this) so apologies for repeating what you said.

Kitty52 i didn't mean to imply I had gone through a lot of filters. Just one was damaged and it would probably have been ok. I bought a load though because I thought they might not be available once current stock had run out.

I hope the hinted at upgrades don't make me regret investing so much in the two tank model!

I am going to be setting up my Quadgrows soon. I think I will keep the two-tank configuration for now. It might add stability. I have ordered spare filters and a few spare joining tubes from Solargrow. Excellent service.
Talking of setting them up, I do have terrible problems with the pots falling off when the plants are bigger - I use some of them outside and we always seem to have high winds at least twice in the course of the tomato growing season. If anyone else has this issue, I find very strong velcro placed either side of the drainage hole of the pot to stick it to the tank lids helps. Also pushing canes down through the holes improves stability. (In the past the whole lot - plants and tanks - have tipped over in high winds.)

  • Just bought a Quadgrow from Solargrow, they seem to have stock. Ordered last Thursday and it arrived Friday.

I popped into Two Wests today as I live local and bought another Vitopod heated propagator. I already have the larger size but this year it was larger than I needed, so today I have purchased the smaller one.

I also bought the the additional panels to make it another layer higher if needed. Assuming they are the same size panels as my larger Vitopod then it might give me the option of being able to have three layers on one of them if needed?

Seems Two Wests have stocked of the Quadgrow system too.
