I think the thing that struck me most was the Controller's attitude. By all means move with the times, but at least treat the listeners and presenters who made you the successful station that you were with some respect.
Personally there isn’t enough Country on radio 2 (apart from the great Whispering Bob) for me so I listen to Country line radio online 🤠.
For me there isn't enough (or any) thinking man's rock, prog-rock if you like, jazz fusion, electronic etc. The sort of stuff they used to have on John Peel's evening show or Alan Freeman's Saturday show. It's amazing though how many times Ken Bruce used to play a long Steely Dan track after Popmaster cos' he'd done a load of talking and needed a break. Well some of us liked that and wanted more.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
I think with hindsight they wouldn't have sacked Steve Wright if they knew ken was leaving. They now come across as pushing the oldies out and replacing with younger dj's, alienating some of the older listeners
The BBC seem determined to destroy any programme on radio or TV which has had a successful format for years. A Question of Sport is probably the prime example on TV. A format which had worked perfectly for decades under a number of hosts and team captains. They then decide to bring a 'comedian' in as host and most of the panel members have no connection with sport!
The only BBC Radio station I listen to now is Radio 5 live but only when sport is on. Was never a fan of any of the DJs that Smashy and Nicey were based on. Fair play to the likes of SW for getting away with it for so long.
For music, Absolute is my choice but they've just stopped broadcasting on the frequency I 'tune in' on when driving (amidst loads of advice about how easy it is to switch to listening via the new fangled way via buying a new fangled device to plug into my car somewhere). Unfortunately, that will never happen. I hold my hand up - technophobe/dinosaur/Luddite. Stick a label on me, I'm done
