The only radio slow I listen to now is Jo Whiley. Now she has a show which isn't to please the drive time audience, she is allowed to play her own style of music both new and old. I can always rely on her to introduce me to something of quality that I haven't heard before. I'm afraid the rest is just mainstream pulp. I love all kinds of music from rock, to house, country, classic... All sorts! But the crap they play isn't quality it's just the industry fluff. Also love Hughie Morgan and Craig Charles on radio 6 for the same reasons as I love Jo Whiley.
Funny I’m listening to R2 as I write. To be honest I quite like the mix of music styles, rather than the presenters. Perhaps being abroad is something to do with it. When I first moved here I struggled to get any English radio, ( had to buy a “set” with long wave…… yes I’m that old), at least now I just ask “thin air” for any station around the world and it miraculously starts to play!
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
I was brought up on BBC radio, with no TV my mum had it on from the minute she got up until the time they went to bed. I did enjoy some of it though, Jimmy Young, having to be quiet while she wrote down ‘The Recipe for Today’. Then would sit very quiet listening to David Kossoff reading the Old Testament Story. Then I’d have to be out to bed early in the evenings as they listened to plays, The Man in Black, Temple, appointment with Fear, but during the day I liked Mrs Dales Diary. Think there was some children’s programmes around lunchtime.
When I had my own choice, the only station I listened to was Luxembourg for the top twenty. I listened to Terry Wogan and Ken Bruce up to Pop Master then turned it off. I have a lot of CD’s and would prefer to listen to my own choice, also my choice of audio books. Now I haven’t got a clue what’s on the radio. If they think they’re going to bring radio up to date for young people, I don’t think they will, and in doing so will probably lose their few remaining older listeners.

I felt sorry for Jo Whiley when she joined Drivetime @WonkyWomble. She is so passionate about her kind of music and has done a great deal to promote it. She received abuse from listeners from the start in spite of Simon Mayo standing up for her. To be honest l'm still not sure why she agreed to do it, l'm guess pressure was brought to bear.
I've just turned radio 2 off. Bleedin' Country music. Makes me heave
There is more Country on radio 2 this week as it’s the country 2 country music festival in London, Dublin and Glasgow. Personally there isn’t enough Country on radio 2 (apart from the great Whispering Bob) for me so I listen to Country line radio online 🤠.

Failure is always an option.
