Parsley

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
When I've used up the pots of supermarket parsley, I usually leave them outside.
Often, they sprout. Are they worth keeping? Will they taste ok seeing as they haven't had a chance to flower?

I should think so,   They’ll need planting out though,  they’re very big plants left to grow properly.
I always buy a pot from SM and split it up straight away, you can get up to 20 plants from one pot,  not worth sowing seeds for 99p.  I do the same with Basil.

Thanks @Lyn. I'll plant them out.

If the pots already been outside that’s fine,  if it’s been in you would need to harden them off.

Some have been outside since last summer. I think they're hardened off! @Lyn😊

Oh yes,  if they survived that lot before Christmas they’ll be ok,  they are a short lived perennial though so only expect a couple of years from them.  I buy a pot every third year.

My only concern about planting them out is our four-legged fiends peeing on them😐

If you’ve got any chicken wire/mesh you can make cones/pyramids around them.   Pin it down with long tent pegs,  cheap from eBay or Amazon. No good laying it flat they squat on the top of it.

I think I'll just give the leaves a good wash if they grow.  More foxes than cats at the moment.

That’s all I do,  as long as they don’t dig up the young plants.

Once settled in Parsley self seeds so you never have to buy it again. Also it makes wonderful ground cover with that vivid bright green colour.
