posting trees

Hello
does anyone know of a company I can use to return a tree, the wrong one was supplied and the company used has less than good customer service  -  I can return the tree and get a refund but cannot find any company that will take a tree ( bar my parcel.com ) which the cost is more than the purchase price) ) any suggestions ?

If they sent the wrong thing, they should pay for it to be returned. Keep pushing!

Surely they could pick up the wrong tree when they deliver the right one - if they genuinely wanted to be helpful.

    Name and shame them.
No decent company would expect you to return, at your expense, something that's their mistake!
Most companies would tell you to keep that one, and they'd send out the correct one. You're entitled to a refund if you didn't get what you ordered.

If the tree you received was not what you ordered, under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 it is their responsibility to put things right - by law - with as little inconvenience to you as possible.
It's NOT down to you to return the tree.
If they want it back they can make arrangements to have it collected at YOUR convenience and either supply you with the right tree or a full refund which includes any P&P you've paid.
That is the law in the UK  - don't be fobbed off and let us know the name of the company

  • Good reply, @Pete.8. Too many companies rely on us believing their assertions as to their lack of responsability, but the law is the law.

@paan, write them a clearly worded email quoting the Sale of Goods Act 1979, and underlining that their refusal to comply is not acceptable. State that you will feel obliged to take the matter further if they don't. My experience is that companies will soon back down if they think you know what you're talking about and won't be bullied.

    Good luck

Sale of Goods Act 1979(as amended).  Even more impressive😊

If you still don't get an acceptable response, and you're on Facebook, name and shame on there as well. People often say that it gets results.

  • Ditto with Trustpilot. I once gave a one star to a well known plumbing company. They first of all tried to buy back the bad review ( :o) without giving me the refund, and when I threatened them with Trading Standards they backed down, gave me the refund and the bribe to change the review. I still dobbed them into Trading Standards.

We are not as powerless as companies would like us to think.
  • They should be 100% be arranging a return. I bought some fruit trees a few years back from Ornamental Trees and one of them was the wrong root stock. They arranged for it to be picked up again without any fuss and sent a replacement.

As well as the excellent suggestions already given, I think the chargeback scheme on your card may apply as you were sent goods that were not what you ordered.

thank you all , for some reason no notifications were received in my email to say I had any responses so just reading these now .  It is really useful information, the company disputed that they had supplied the wrong tree - but it was clearly not on dwarf rootstock and was the only one without a label,  in hindsight I should have also read the reviews online prior to purchase regarding the company as they are uniformly awful, as it happens my allotment neighbour wanted the tree, so it ended well, thanks again
