Enjoyed tonight's episode, especially the chap's garden in Brighton - it was stunning and very well presented.

Meant to comment last week, did anyone else think Monty crammed far too many iris bulbs in his pots? I was gobsmacked!

I hope not @Lizzie27. I went out and bought some iris bulbs and followed his example  !

Haven't watched last night's programme yet, will catch up today.
  • Yes @Lizzie27 I loved that Brighton garden too and liked his thoughtful commentary on his planting choices. I missed the Iris segment though!

I absolutely loved the entire programme.  Ned's love of apples reminded me of much-missed Nigel's obsession with tennis balls.  I do have a soft spot for Monty's pets, I do admit!

Another thoroughly enjoyable offering from Monty, Ned, and other inspired gardeners!

There really were some lovely gardens on this week's programme.

I think l prefer this time of year with the grasses, Heleniums etc and the softer light, although a garden in full bloom at the height of Summer can be hard to beat.

    Sue Kent is an inspiration.

@clematisdorset You mentioned that you had missed "the iris segment" but if it's regarding Monty planting rather a lot of bulbs in a pot, if my memory serves me right, it was actually last week's episode if you are still interested.

Yes, Fran, you're totally correct.  It was: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001qwzv/gardeners-world-2023-episode-27; it's about 44 minutes in, clematisdorset .

Re the dwarf iris - I only watched this episode a few days ago. Those reticulata irises can certainly be packed in quite tightly into pots. It also helps to prevent them getting waterlogged once the foliage starts growing, as long as they're not soaking wet to start with of course. The grit is barely needed when you do that too, although in bigger pots, it does set them off well, and there will tend to be more gaps in those as you'd need a lot of bulbs to really fill them well. Alpine pans are great for them too.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
