There are no signs of daffs or snowdrops yet! Is this to be expected?

Our species and special Snowdrops are well in flower, except for the ones in deep shade. The nivalis ones along our lane are just beginning. Daffs are  about 3 to 6 inches up. Funnily enough February Gold is probably the least developed.

East Kent is colder than a Derbyshires border liver might imagine.

I've got a few snowdrops blooming, some just showing white buds and others just an inch or so up from soil level. They are very late this year. A few daffs are a couple of inches high but none in bud yet - Somerset.

I planted 45 Tete-a-Tete daffs last autumn but none are showing through yet.

I had E. Sensation many, many years ago, but I can't recall when it flowered here. Nice if you want that burst of colour earlier in the year then most others.
I had a look for  C. Morris @punkdoc - Beth Chatto apparently stocks it [not just now of course] - at an eye watering price!  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Snow drops only started sprouting up here this week and only noticed the first crocus flowers today and some daffodil leaves a couple of days back. I think it's a bit behind when these would have been coming out in previous years.

    Happy gardening!

Most daffs won't be out yet, though my Rijnsvelds Earlies are in flower (they're always the first). Most of my other "early" daffs are still just green shoots - February Gold,  Tete a Tete, Mando, etc.

My snowdrops are out - I'd say about half are in flower. But I expect it depends on the variety,

I always fancied it, I liked the idea of a daff. in December, but could not justify the price, @Fairygirl

  • Snowdrops and crocuses are approximately 3 weeks later this year. It’s the frost in December that stopped them. The January daffs are out, the March daffs on their way. The tulips are around a month later.
So far, a nice winter like in old days.

It's certainly pricey @punkdoc, but I feel it would get battered into submission here anyway, so not worth the expense at all. It would need very careful siting!

Just shows the difference @Simone_in_Wiltshire - standard daffs/narcissus showing here [2 or 3 inches in some gardens] just now is very early, and the snowdrops are slightly earlier than usual as I said earlier. I still consider this to have been a mild winter here   :)

  • Please send your mild air to us, @Fairygirl
We had 10 days permafrost in December much to the joy of the tulips. And we had again minus degrees over night for days now.
Normally, the crocuses and snowdrops are out mid February. I can't see that they are in full bloom in 2 weeks this year. It might be end of February, I would guess.
