Bird ID please.

Does anyone know what bird this is which was on the sea yesterday after the snowfall?

    Well that's interesting. I don't think I ever see them in winter and I never knew they developed a white collar like that. Apparently it's a winter only pattern that juvenile and non-breeding birds have. I thought it might have been a different species but I guess I learned something today :)

    Apparently it was taken early morning and there were three or four of them @wild edges.  I can't imagine they would have found any oysters!

    That reminds me that I was going to post a photo of an oyster...

    Oyster catchers actually eat lots of mussels. When I was observing them on Bute the shore line was littered with the blue black shells.

    This one has got something but it certainly isn't an oyster or a mussel. Even enlarging the pic it's not clear.
