No it's nothing like Silver Surfer's photo, the stems are thick and fleshy as if it is a kind of succulent. I'll photo the stems tomorrow.
Thanks for the Cordyline ID, I hope it doesn't grow to 66foot as per specs I have seen and it definitely won't self-seed here as it's not warm enough !
Never seen a cabbage tree in the UK before (the top plant). They are self-seeding pests where I come from.
Common name is Torbay palm as they are so common on the South coast. A few years ago many in the gardens of Wales and England died when we had a very cold winter.
I had one in my garden, it was the Winter of 2010 that did for a lot of them. Mine survived but was never the same, and after a couple of years l took it out.

They're very common place here, people buy them as bedding plants for a few quid, you put them in the middle of your front garden lawn surrounded by begonias / pelargoniums etc. You see lots that have survived to become substantial specimens.

2. Taken Oban. West Coast Scotland.
A shrub which grow 2-4ft. in height .
Stems will be woody..
