@Alfie_ I had bought the pots from a local GC.. Aylett's Nurseries, St Albans..
Thanks! That’s actually not too from me .

Now I have gone out to plant them I have noticed the stem size difference between the two Gabriel Oak bare roots is pretty drastic. Is that common?

Both GO but one on top has taller steps and are twice as thick. I know there is a degree of variation but is this normal variation for the same variety?

I think it's normal/OK. I bought a trio of Gertrude Jekylls from DA this past spring. One had fewer canes than the others (3) and remained of course noticeably smaller. Hopefully it'll catch up with the others in a few years lol. So long as they are all healthy I don't suppose it matters.

I'd be happy with the roses DA sent you. They look promising!

@WhereAreMySecateurs - thanks. I guess you’re right in that they will eventually catch up to each other. Lovely blooms on your GJ for their first year! I have just one but love it - the scent is off the charts.

The top plant looks to be older than the bottom one, it has thicker canes and a thicker shank..  that's all.. probably been in the ground a bit longer..
