I have loads of jobs 'on hold' waiting for rainy days - touching up woodwork (with paint I hasten to add!), cleaning windows and mirrors, batch cooking, clearing out drawers and cupboards, sewing alterations etc etc.
What I actually do:
make lists of things to do (all previous comments about lists apply)
pick up a logic or sudoku puzzle book while having a quick coffee - put it down 2 hours later...
'sort' emails but make the mistake of clicking on a link and then get hopelessly mired in internet rubbish for an hour or three
do a 'quick' Google search for a family tree lead, then realise it's time for dinner 3 hours later
T'interweb is a time warp space. I'm doing it now....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Aye and on forums we also learn of others' aims and objectives plus, sometimes, failures and strengths and weaknesses. Which leads me to realise that we're all pretty much the same.
I spend a lot of time "cogitating". I run a "to do" list so I start by looking at each job before dismissing it because it involves 6 other jobs which need to be done before I can even start doing the job on the list. ie. PAINT WALLS. Before I start; Sweep down cobwebs and spiders etc. Find a dustpan and brush. Wash the walls with sugar soap. Find Sugar soap, find a washcloth, find a bucket, etc. Find Paint. find paintbrushes, and a cloth to wipe up drips. find a sheet to cover the floor. etc. etc. Forget it. Not enough time left, Too dark
That is what happened to me yesterday @Joyce Goldenlily and phone calls were added. Thought I'd try to finish painting the bedroom today but the bare root roses I ordered have just arrived.
My car is bright red. I like red cars. Once I borrowed a white Peugot 205 from the garage while my car (a previous red one) was being serviced. I took ages looking for it in the SM car park, seemed every other car in Dordogne was a small white Peugot. It had the sort of key that you had to turn in the lock, surprised I wasn't caught for attempted car theft!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I love a good cogitate @Joyce Goldenlily. I think that's one of the reasons I don't sleep well. I don't have time during the day because I'm too busy making making things to do lists. I do the same as @raisingirl and add a few that I've done.
That happened to me years ago @Busy-Lizzie and the owner caught me at it.
Many years ago I went to get my car from the street where it was parked. I opened the door with the key, turned on the ignition and started the engine. Then I began to realise that there was something not quite right about the interior, stuff missing and other stuff in its place. I got out and checked the number plate - it was one number different from mine. I looked around the street and realised that mine was a few spaces away. Now this was an old Hillman Imp van and I had never seen another before. And here was its twin which probably hadn't been together since they were first sold years before.
Another time consumer is "researching online". I shop online most of the time now. Hunting down "exactly" what I want, reading reviews, and trying to order and pay for the damn thing, if I find what I am looking for, uses up hours of dreary grey days. I have just bought a slow cooker and an air fryer. It has taken me nearly 2 weeks to find what I wanted. I was astonished to find the slow cooker on the mat, in the conservatory late yesterday. I was home all day, the dog didn't bark, no idea when it was delivered but not complaining. More time will now be needed for me to change my cooking habits and thought processes when cooking. After I have studied and processed the instructions. The slow cooker apparently has a sous vide facility which I have yet to explore.

We've done a lot of this recently! In the last 3 days OH has ordered a freezer and I've ordered a microwave. Our old chest freezer was 2nd-hand over 35 years ago, the outside is rusting, the seal is going and I think an upright model will be easier to access and keep track of what we've got. The old microwave has started to produce a smell that no amount of cleaning will get rid of (I suspect someone might have spilled something on the top where the vents are, but is not admitting to it).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I've given up making "To Do" lists as they can be endless and then become depressing. I keep a mental list of stuff to prioritise indors and out but these days much depends on mood so, if I feel like sewing or sowing, that's what I do.
A few weeks ago I decided a mural of 60s New York was no longer amusing so I stripped it and then painted the whole room cos I was in the mood. Only the hall, stairs and landing to do but now I need to wait for better light and the mood to hit me.
Loads of weeding and planting and sowing to do and that involves hours or research so, like others, I can disappear down an internet rabbit warren. Always some patchwork or dress-making to do so no excsue for being bored but I can choose to be idle now and again if I want to.
Given the lack of rain this last year, I'm even happy watching raindrops running down the windows.
