I bought a paraffin heater last winter to heat my new greenhouse. What a disaster, I used it about 3 times and everything was covered in soot, so I shortened the wick and it wouldn’t stay alight. I could only find two options …. everything covered in soot or unlit 🤨
CDouchs This happened to me some years ago when it was cheaper to heat a GH.
When I went to see them in the shop where I had purchased the fuel from, they said others had the same problem, they had had home heating oil (35 second) delivered in mistake for paraffin (28 second) they were sorry, but that was it.
Nobody else sold it here abouts, except garden centres and they were at that time charging £9.99 per 4 litres or else in another £12.99.
4 litres lasted between 2 and 3 nights, so it was cheaper to buy new plants than to try heating the GH, so I packed in heating and left the heaters out for the scrap man!
Braidman, you better pray 'Fire' does not read this. Someone posted how many bulbs they were planting,I posted a similar comment, got a roasting from her, telling me it wasn't appropriate to comment on peoples financial situation, and telling them they didn't have to justify themselves. My remark was meant light-heartedly and was taken as such. We kept plants in a 6x4 lean to with a proper tubular green house, electric heater, bubble wrapped and another layer over on frosty nights, that only gives you frost free. We also have economy 7,and solar with batteries. I agree pretty sure cuts in service are on the cards. Unless you have a huge amount of chillies,I would keep them indoors, they need really high temperatures, plus your green house situation isn't going to give good winter light. The other plants would be fine, without heat, covered like ours.
