    Vive la difference.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

  • Thank you everyone, sadly watching Gardeners World tonight with Monty Don and they actually spoke about past gardeners, one stood out, Mr Middleton, it was him who invited Fred on to his show, Fred was popular and did more radio shows, and then Fred Streeter took over the BBC Radio show from Mr Middleton, sadly Fred never got a mention in tonights show 😥

Well, never say never!  Put it out there and see who salutes! Fred has good internet profile and that bodes well. Some presenters have disappeared without trace and it's hard to find much to follow up on, outside the archives.

Fred recorded for  BBC gardening just up the hill from me in 1948.

Oddly, I just posted a link with Fred in it a few weeks ago - about BBC gardening before GW.

Fred did the show upto 1956, then Percy Thrower became the TV Gardner presenter, I don't understand why they missed him out...

Possibly they didn’t  have any film of Fred Streeter … back in the early days of tv little film was saved, most was re-used.
His is a name I remember from my childhood tho… was he ever on GQT do you know?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Nick, I should say that this forum is very little to do with BBC and GW. The show makers and creators don't read the comments here - it's just passionate people asking questions and knocking around ideas.
  • Yes they did a summary of past presenters on the last show of the current series.  There were other notable omissions like Toby Buckland,  who, as most know,  took over when Monty was ill but was unceremoniously dumped when Monty came back.

This article suggests Fred Streeter was a presenter on ‘In your Garden’, a precursor to GQT.
