Acorns on the pavement

So who is responsible for cleaning the pavement when the acorns fall from a tree in a garden? Not allowed to prune the tree as it has a T.P.O. on it.

    Squirrels?

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Unless your local authority has completely lost the plot, it's the tree which has the TPO not the acorns.  I'd go with @nutcutlet's suggestion  :D

Is it your tree, on your property? Not quite sure why you want to clear the acorns though.

If they're anything like the huge amount of beech nuts we have on all the pavements round here, I can see why people would want to clear them. They're very uncomfortable to walk over!

Not my tree. The pavement in question is very unpleasant to walk on with a thick layer of acorns. Not complaining, just interested as to responsibility for cleaning said pavement.
And I thought it was obvious that the T.P.O was on the tree or has my ability to pen deserted me?

I'm really surprised at the number of acorns this year - never seen so many before and quite slippy if you step on a little cluster of them.

There lots of oaks on my road and on the adjacent green. Most of the neighbours sweep them off the pavement into the road which is now getting a crushed acorn topping

I expect the local council would clear the pavements @Palustris, but it's one of those things that probably comes to down to personal choices. I'd always clear away leaves or anything else outside my property, if it was a well used footpath, so that they weren't hazardous for people, but I expect many folk don't.
We have those small road sweepers that come round every now and again too - which sweep up leaves and debris on the footpaths. Usually once all the foliage is off the trees. Only problem is that they also damage all the pavement surfaces.  :/

When the council clean our road ( with the Scarab - little sweeper machine ) they also send a worker with a blower, who blows all the stuff off the pavement into the road to be swept up. Im pretty sure we are not legally responsible for clearing the pavements, but I notice that some local householders do sweep up the pavement outside their houses. However if we collected up the leaves etc from our very long road frontage, our green bins would be perpetually full before we even started on the garden.
The squirrels and jays round here do account for some of the acorns.

I guess it depends on how concerned you are . If you think it is risky for yourself or neighbours to walk on and your local council haven't dealt with it, you and neighbours have no option but to do the clearing up.
It would probably be a lot quicker than contacting your local council if yours is anything like mine. :)
