I actually decided to move them and planted them in a space just behind the Gaura and they look rather lovely mixed in with that. Still need to work out what will go behind them - something green and shrubby perhaps! - but I'll leave that to next year.
I agree @AnniD. Chris Lloyd was famous for his bright displays It comes down to personal likes and dislikes @gilla.walmsley . If you want a hot, bright look to cheer you up, you can add orange, red, bright purple and really anything else. It's particularly useful if you have lots of cloudy/overcast days during summer. If you want a calmer, gentler look, then go with greens and whites, and even some bronzy foliage. Plum foliage is also a very good foil for any shade of pink.
Flowers on their own can mean interest can be lost at certain times, so a good amount of toning or contrasting foliage is always a good idea.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Not a choice I'd care for, but each to their own. It also depends where you live as to whether meconopsis would thrive. They grow readily here, and in other damper, cooler areas. No use in a hotter, drier site.

White is always safe. But orange if you really want to zing!
